University of St Andrew’s: First class alumni fundraising

Bluefrog has been working with Universities to increase their fundraising income since 2011. Creating responsive appeals, digital communications and integrated campaigns.

We have applied ourselves to the challenge of inspiring alumni to donate to their university with great success. Launching record breaking campaigns for The University of Leeds, Imperial College London, Nottingham University and the University of St Andrews. We’re proud to have seen this success recognised with two CASE awards and continue to gather insight into the sector through qualitative research and sector reviews.

We’ve worked with the University of St Andrew’s since 2014. At the heart of our approach is connection, values and the ability to take prospects back to their time at university. This approach is driven by insight arrived at through conversations with donors and alumni. These conversations allow us to understand the four key elements our audience want from fundraising communications:

  • Remember who they were

  • Encourage them to give again


These four elements combine to produce extremely powerful materials that motivate donors to give, reconnect them to their time at the university and crucially show alumni that you know who they are and care about their needs.

The University of St Andrews has a special and unique atmosphere, with its own traditions and rituals. We use these markers in our campaigns evoking these events in the minds of alumni and linking them to the need to support scholarships so students of today don’t miss out.

This approach delivers outstanding results. With appeal income growing by more than 1000% in just two years.

We’ve now raised more than £1m for scholarships.
